Several different problems slowed the vote count in Marion County Tuesday night while another kept results from displaying on the county’s election website.
Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says as a result final results were delayed until about midnight.
“We had three precincts we were working to finish up. Two of them were dealing with the ballots. We had some random ballots that had a printing issue on the back that wouldn’t read very good so we had to work with them to get them through. There was one that we just needed a recount because they had a jammed ballot and we needed to get a good count.”
There was a problem reading the card in the early voting machine at the clerk’s office that prevented its totals from being added to the rest of the totals.
Fox isn’t sure what kept the results from displaying on the county’s election website.
“My vendors telling me they are coming to do a little more research. There could be something wrong with the database and how it was trying to load up to the site,” explained Fox. That is why we haven’t been able to get any of the results up to the Platinum Election site.”
Once the problem is resolved, Fox says the final results will be posted in the usual format that allows review precinct by precinct.
Fox was surprised with the nearly 50-percent voter turnout because there was nothing to indicate the large numbers going to the polls in the early voting numbers. He said the big turnout was all fueled by those going to the polls on election day.
