The KC Blue Devils won their opener of the D1 Junior College National Tournament as the 20th seed knocked off #13 Sheridan, Wyoming 92-80.
KC put 6 in double figures including all five starters. Parker Dortch hit all 5 of his three pointers and led KC with 21. Garrett Belcher finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds as he had a big ally-oop layup and took a huge charge on consecutive possessions late to help KC pull away. Thomas Bell added 19, Jamal Thomas 12, La’Quiem Walker had 11 and Quin Nottingham added 10. KC made 11 three pointers in the game.
They had a 20 points lead early in the first half that Sheridan erased with 13 minutes left in the game when they took their first and only lead of the game. But KC scored on their ensuing possession and held the lead the rest of the way.
The Blue Devils have won 5 straight games now as they get Tuesday off before taking on 4th seed Coffeyville on Wednesday afternoon at 12.
