2019 05/22 – Phyllis E. Laughhunn

Phyllis (Huggins) Laughhunn, age 89, of Centralia, was at her home praying to her Lord for her family on the morning of Wednesday, May 15, 2019 and was embraced in His arms that evening. Over the years Phyllis worked outside the home at St Mary’s Hospital where she later volunteered as a Pink Lady and also for Centralia City Schools’ food services. However, all who knew her saw that her heartbeat for her family as a problem-solver and creative fixer-saver along with her unyielding resolve, unending patience, ever-flowing faith in God, the untiring capacity to believe in and do good, and her ever-present smile sprinkled with winks. On her last morning, she spoke of all this as her adventure. She was an amazing curator of a massive archive of memories, including every greeting card received, boxes and drawers of mementos and trinkets, and every clipping and photo she could acquire through her infectious shutter-bug activity.

Phyllis’s life will be remembered and celebrated with family and friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 10:00 AM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Reverend Lee Redfern officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery of Centralia. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Eternity Baptist Church, her beloved spiritual family, or Residential Hospice, her extended family spanning years of care for both her husband and herself, including Tina and Tiffany and the entire team. Donations will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618) 532-3523, which is honored to be of service to the Laughhunn Family again.
