SC Avoids Upset In Regional Opener, Small School Games From Wednesday

The small school regionals are going on this week.

The 2nd seeded South Central Cougars nearly saw their post season end prematurely trailing 3-1 heading to the bottom of the 6th inning.  However, the Cougars plated 3 runs in the frame to beat Oblong 4-2.  Chase Dodson had 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI; DJ Roberts had a double and scored with Andrew Lybarger scoring and Aaron Patten adding 2 runs.  Logan Lotz was the winning pitcher going all 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs with 4 ks.  SC will play in this weekend’s regional final against tonight’s winner of Dieterich and Hutsonville.

At St Anthony, the host Bulldogs routed Neoga 21-0 and will get Altamont in the title game after their 7-0 win over Casey.  At Nokomis, Cumberland beat Ramsey 9-3, Gibault shutout Mulberry Grove at Okawville 11-0.

The North Clay regional got pushed back a day due to rain.  Today, North Clay will take on Christ Our Rock with Odin and Cisne playing in the other semifinal tomorrow.

Also today, Brownstown takes on the hosts at Nokomis, Okawville will host Father McGivney

In 2a regional’s yesterday, Harrisburg beat Eldorado 8-0 at Anna, TTown in four innings 15-0 over Vandalia at Greenville, Robinson was 3-2 winners over Lawrenceville at Newton, the hosts lost to Carlinville 4-0 at Pana.  Pinckneyville needed 9 innings but defeated Trico 6-5 in the Zeigler Regional played at John A Logan.

Today, Anna hosts West Frankfort.  In Breese, Mater Dei plays Carlyle at 4:30 followed by Althoff and Wesclin, Greenville hosts Hillsboro, Newton welcomes Flora, Shelbyville plays Arthur at Pana, Staunton hosts Gillespie, Benton plays the hosts at Red Bud, Zeigler welcomes  DuQuoin.
