A mobile home in rural Walnut Hill occupied by five residents was destroyed in an early Friday morning fire.
The home at 22,125 North Post Oak south of Walnut Hill is owned by Roger Kern who lives nearby and was occupied by his daughter Gabrielle and her family. The family lost all of their possessions but did have insurance.
Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Greg Earl says one of the occupants woke up to the smell of smoke. After the fire was discovered in the floor area around the front door, all five safely made their way out the front door. Earl says the fire is not suspicious.
Kern indicated the home had recently undergone extensive renovation in the past year with virtually everything inside being new.
Firemen were able to rescue a cat that had been burned in the fire. It was wrapped in a blanket and taken to a vet to see if it could be saved.
The fire call came in at 4:14 Friday morning with firemen on the scene for about two hours.
