A free health and wellness fun-fest is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Centralia Recreation Center.
Rebecca Beaupre is one of three University of Illinois students coordinating the program sponsored by the South Central Illinois Area Health Education Center, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and the Centralia Recreation Complex.
“We have a lot of things that are attractive to kids. We have arts & crafts, sports & activities such as obstacle courses, pickle ball courts, interactive dance activity for kids. But we also have things coming from the hospital as well since we do partner with St Mary’s. Their therapy animals, health screenings, preventative care along with certain speakers talking about reflexology and how to eat a balanced diet.”
The 30-minute seminars on various topics will be held throughout the event which is scheduled for three to six Thursday afternoon. Blood pressure screenings will also be offered.
A number of door prizes will also be awarded.
The three students are part of the University of Illinois’ Rural Inter-professional Health Professions Preceptorship Program.
