The Salem 12u Wildcats won the opening game of the Mt Sterling Little League Sectional defeating the hosts from Brown County 8-2.
Salem scored a pair of runs in the first inning including a Cooper Lobek homer on the games 2nd pitch. Leading 4-2, Heydin Purcell blasted a long home run to left field to extend the lead to 6-2. Deytin Parker added a 2 run double.
Also at the plate for the Cats, Colton Shelton doubled, Parker and Lobek drove in 2 runs, Purcell 3 and Ryan Detering added another RBI. Silas Moats had a hit and run, Lyric Black also scored.
Gavin Decker was the winning pitcher working 4 innings scattering 6 hits and allowing 2 runs with 5 strikeouts and 0 walks. Ayden Rose worked an inning of relief as did Luke Young.
The Wildcats will be back in action today against Champaign East at 7pm. The winner advances to Sunday’s championship with the loser dropping into tomorrow afternoon’s elimination game against Brown County.
