Kathy Lyn Wild, formerly Kathy Presley, 67, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:30 P.M. July 19, 2019, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Everyone who Kathy met loved her. She loved drop toppin’ in her convertible, reading, shopping, and vacationing at the beach. Tybee Island and Gulf Shores were her favorite vacationing spots. Kathy’s true calling was teaching. She worked as a seventh grade English and social studies teacher at Rome Grade School. Kathy attended Logan Street Baptist Church for many years. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Hughey Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Parker and Bill Stendeback officiating. She was born March 9, 1952, in Carbondale, Illinois to the late Edward Lathan “Bang” and Norma Jean (Zuelke) Mitchell. She first married Danny Presley on December 12, 1970, in Herrin, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 44 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on October 6, 2014. She later married Steven “Steve” Wild on October 21, 2017.
In addition to her mother, Norma “Granny” McMurray, and husband, Kathy is survived by her three daughters, Dana Baltzell and significant other Bruce Violette of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Sara Burnett and significant other, Wesley Jones of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Shauna Presley and significant other, Dr. Jeff Larson of Quincy, Illinois; stepdaughter, Jama Wild of Evansville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Myles Evans, Jase Arning, Bili Presley, and Lane Burnett; two step-grandchildren, Abbie Normington and significant other, Brandon Gourley, and Landon Wagner; step great-grandchild, Ryder Gourley; three sisters, Janet Martin, Joanna Choate, and Karen Cox and husband, Dan; stepbrother, Daryl Cochran and wife, Nancy; beloved dog, Sam; and several extended family members and friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her first husband, father, stepfather, and infant brother, John Mitchell.
