A 36-year-old former Farina woman has died in a murder-suicide in Mattoon.

Rachel (Sigrist) McFarland along with her 37-year-old husband Joseph McFarland were found deceased in their home at about 11:55 Friday evening.

Mattoon Police, in a news release, said both had been shot and the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.  They declined to release any additional information.

Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers has indicated an autopsy is set for Monday.

A family member said Rachel Sigrist grew up in Farina and was a 2001 graduate of South Central High School.   She was a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina.

She had one son, Colton McFarland, who was reportedly at home at the time of the incident.   Rachel was a manager at the Mattoon McDonald’s.
