Rainfall totals over 6″ in Salem and 5″ in Centralia

Additional overnight rainfall of one to two inches across South Central Illinois has raised the total rainfall at the Salem Water Plant to 6.16 inches of rain.

The Centralia Water Plant has now recorded 5.09 inches of rain. The numbers are even higher in northern Marion County. The Alma Weather Station recorded another 1.48 inches of rain overnight for a two day total of 6.83 inches. Even before the overnight rains, several locations in Patoka had recorded more than eight inches of rain.

As a result of the additional overnight rain aggravating the flooding from Monday, a flash flood warning has been issued for Marion, Northeastern Clinton, Southern Fayette and Bond Counties until 9:45 Tuesday morning. Salem Police report West Kell Street has been closed between South College and Washington Street due to flooding. England Road is reported as flooded near Summertime Road.

Numerous other rural roads remain under water. While water is reported across the U.S. and State highways in multiple locations, so far all remain open.

There was one report of damage from the early morning severe thunderstorms. A roof was reportedly blown off a porch of the John Garrison home on Watson Lane near the Nation and Selmaville Road intersection southwest of Salem. There were no injuries.
