JC Edward Weems, 86, of Woodlawn, Illinois passed away at 2:04 P.M. August 20, 2019 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. JC proudly served his country in the United States Army and owned and operated Weems Towing Service before retiring. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. and Central Christian Church. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:30 P.M. Friday, August 23, 2019 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 following the visitation. A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow and members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, JC is survived by his two sons, Steve Weems and Dale Weems, both of Mount Vernon; daughter, Terry Young of Irvington; grandchildren, Cory Weems of Saint Louis, Missouri, Melisa Weems of Mount Vernon, Matt Young of Ina, and Mica Weems of Mount Vernon; six great-grandchildren, Gage Roberts, Hailey Roberts, Brenton Young , Ravin Hale, Justin Shaw, and Miley Weems; one sister, Betty Graham and husband Robert of Ocala, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was born May 12, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Howard Edward and Pauline C. (Higdon) Weems. He married Eunice Brenton on July 17, 1951 in Jefferson County, Illinois and she survives in Woodlawn. In addition to his parents, Mr. Weems was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray Weems and Jack Weems and his sister, Geraldine Wertz.
