Centralia city officials plan to deliver a $450,000 grant application to state officials this week to allow Intermountain Electronics to purchase and expand their facility at 400 Swan Drive.
The city council Monday night approved a resolution in support of the grant application. Under the proposal, Intermountain Electronics will add 12,800 square feet to the building and hire an additional 18 workers over the next two years.
Centralia City Manager Dan Ramey called it a great day for the city and encouraged other companies with expansion plans to get with the city’s economic development department to see if they might also be eligible for grant dollars.
“It’s a straight-out grant. If someone meets all the conditions that is going to be a permanent grant for them. I want as many eligible people to get as much money as possible.”
Ramey noted the state could change the program again in the future, so now is the time to act.
The grant, if approved, would allow Intermountain Electronics to level the playing field with Ohio which was also in the running for the plant expansion.
