2019 10/11 – Alan J. Hammer

Alan J. Hammer, 67, of Centralia passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in Centralia. Mr. Hammer was a proud United States Air Force veteran serving his country with honor. He was a member of the Centralia American Legion Post 446. Alan was skilled with his hands, creating many beautiful wood projects. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed many outdoor activities. Alan found great joy in catching “the big one” while fishing, admiring the wonders of nature while camping, and grilling tasty meals to share with those he loved. He collected model trains as a favorite hobby and was very knowledgeable about the many different varieties of model trains. Alan also found much relaxation in attending car shows and checking out the craftsmanship in the different makes and models. Alan will be remembered as a loving and kind father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev Paula Comper officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Centralia where military rites will be accorded by Centralia VFW Post 2055 American Legion Post 446. Friends are welcome to a visitation time with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Alan’s honor to the family’s wishes. Survivors include his loving children, Alison Cox and husband Allan of FL, Laura Skurat and husband Louie of Tamaroa, and Amanda Hammer of Centralia; 14 precious grandchildren; 1 cherished great-grandchild; kind siblings, Kenny Hammer, Donnie Hammer, Larry Hammer, Richard Hammer, Judy Hammer, Kathy Perrin, and Elaine Heinen; and several special nieces and nephews.

He was born on May 31, 1952 the son of John and Esther (Krahn) Hammer in Missouri. He married Marlys Hill and three children were born of this union, they later divorced. Alan was preceded in death by both his parents, John and Esther Hammer; and grandson, Zander Skurat.
