Mt. Vernon man receives 15-year prison term for 2019 shooting

A 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty in Jefferson County Court to a Class X felony charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Myron Seigart was charged in connection with a May 2019 shooting in the 900 block of South 21st in Mt. Vernon. One person was reportedly treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Seigart was arrested by police in June hiding inside a dryer at a Mt. Vernon home.

In exchange for the plea, charges of being an armed habitual criminal and aggravated discharge of a firearm were dropped.
