Mt. Vernon man sentenced to 40 years in prison for attempted murder

A 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged with attempting to kill a pregnant woman in December 2018 before leading Indiana police on a high-speed chase has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in Jefferson County Court for attempted murder.

Victor Serrano had also been charged with attempted intentional homicide of a child, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated domestic battery in connection with the incident that occurred on Country Club Road in rural Mt. Vernon.   All those charges were dropped as part of the plea.  Serrano was also ordered to make nearly $14,000 in restitution and given credit for 322 days already served in jail.

The high-speed chase in Indiana unfolded after a State Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle in connection with the incident in Mt. Vernon.  Reports indicated Serrano crashed into another State Trooper’s patrol car before attempting to flee on foot in the parking lot of a truck stop near Evansville, Indiana.
