Breese Central Lady Cougars come from behind to win the Class 2A Carlyle Regional with a 46-30 victory over Piasa Southwestern Thursday. Lady Cougars trailed throughout the first half as they were down as much as 10-4 late in the first quarter and 12-5 early in the second period. A late second quarter surge enabled Breese Central to cut that deficit to just 16-14 at halftime.
Lady Cougars never led until Madelyn Santel’s field goal with two minutes left in the third quarter moved Breese Central in front 29-27. Santel’s bucket was part of a 16-0 run as the Lady Cougars went from down 27-24 midway through the third period to up 40-27 with three and a half minutes left in the game.
Piasa SW turned the ball over nine times in the second half, most of which came against the Lady Cougars press. Santel scored 16 points to lead Breese Central, while Cassidy Kretschmer added 14. Lady Cougars will take a 22-7 record into the Greenville Sectional where they will face the Auburn Regional champion Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Also in 2a title games, Carlinville won at home over Hillsboro 42-39, Freeburg advanced at Columbia knocking off Chester 36-29, TTown beat Pana 49-41 at Newton, Nashville over Pinckneyville 42-28 at Sesser and in overtime it was Harrisburg over Anna 54-52 at Vienna.
Tonight, Carterville and Benton play from Johnston City and Sullivan hosts top-ranked Paris.
In other 1a regional semifinals, Christ Our Rock beat Sandoval 51-32 and will get Hardin Calhoun in the title game after their win over Nokomis 33-29.
Tonight in regional championships, Woodlawn and Okawville play at Edwards County, St Anthony hosts Altamont, Brownstown and Cowden from Louisville.
Also last night in girls hoops regular season play, Highland 74-30 over Mascoutah, Civic Memorial fell to Jerseyville 64-63, Marion over Carbondale 50-43.
