Fire destroys barn in rural Sandoval

By News Nov 1, 2020 | 3:27 PM

A 40 by 80-foot metal pole barn was destroyed in an early morning fire at 2641 Norton Road between Sandoval and Odin.

Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says the barn on property leased to Steve Lusch wasn’t discovered by a neighbor until it was almost totally on the ground.  The fire department shuttled up the one-lane drive to put out the fire.

Parson says the cause is believed to be electrical, but the State Fire Marshal will look over the fire scene on Monday.

Parson says there were a few personal belongings in the barn that were destroyed.  A camper parked outside had the rear tail lights melt due to the intense heat.

Lusch was not home.  The property is owned by Theresa Popolczy.

The fire call came in at 4:43 Sunday morning.  Firemen remained on the scene until around 7:15 Sunday morning.   No mutual aid was requested.
