The Sandoval Fire Department reports a combine is most likely a total loss following a fire on the Range Road east of the FS Grain Elevator early Monday evening.

Chief Chad Parson says the combine was several hundred yards south of Range Road and could only be reached with brush trucks due to the soft ground in the field. The combine is owned by Swagler Brothers Farms of Shattuc. It received significant damage and most likely cannot be repaired. Odin Firemen provided mutual aid with a brush truck and tanker.

Firemen were on the scene for about two and a half hours extinguishing hot spots in the hopper and equipment areas of the combine.

There were several other field and woods fires in the area on Monday as well.

Kell Fire reported a trash fire started a small woods fire on the Bryan Austin property at 7104 Kell Road in Texico around 3:17 Monday afternoon. No damage was reported.

Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters quickly extinguished a woods fire that had spread to a nearby field at 22406 North US 51 in Jefferson County (just north of Irvington but on the east side of the road) around 4:15 p.m.
