The City of Centralia has opened bids on the construction of a new raw water line from near Boulder on Carlyle Lake to the new water treatment plant. The low bid from Haier Plumbing and Heating of Okawville was for $1,454,699. Haier was one of three bidders. City Clerk Kim Enke says the bid was near the engineer's estimate. The Sandoval Village board passed an ordinance joining the Illinois Public Works Mutual Aid Network at its regular meeting on Tuesday. Agencies in the mutual aid network agree to provide each other with assistance in cases of disaster. By paying an annual $100 membership fee, Sandoval becomes a part of this network. Fayette, Jefferson and Marion Counties were among the top four counties for Youth Turkey Hunt harvest this year. Statewide 2,006 birds were taken, breaking the previous harvest record of 1,733 set in 2020. There were also more youth turkey permits issued this year with 6,001, an increase of 718 over last year. The Selmaville Grade School District received eight applications to become the district's new superintendent before Monday's deadline. The person selected will replace David Lund who earlier resigned to become the Superintendent of the Brownstown School District beginning July first. Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says the March primary election results are final after incumbent coroner Troy Cannon has decided not to contest his loss to Claude Howell in the coroner's race. Cannon had left that option open after losing the contest by less than five percent of the vote, which allowed him to seek a discovery recount. The deadline for starting the process to obtain a recount was Monday.
