The Salem City Council has approved a $368,885 bid from Korte-Luitjohn of Highland to replace a failing concrete sewer line that runs from Park Street south in front of Salem Community High School to North Jefferson and ending at the Clark Street intersection. Public Works Director John Pruden wants to move the sewer line further away from the front of Salem Community High School to allow for potential expansion of the school. The line failed last Spring adjacent to the circle drive in front of the high school. Pruden fears more failures in the line if it is not replaced. The work will be completed this winter.

The council gave their approval to the Salem Lion's to begin fund raising efforts and seeking grants to create an inclusive playground next to Shelter 7 near the Salem Aquatic Center in Bryan Memorial Park. The city has already approved construction of a handicapped sidewalk to Shelter 7.
