The Salem City Council has approved hiring Micah Mulvany of MRJ and Associates to survey and subdivide the former Armory property on North College for construction of new homes.

City Manager Bill Gruen believes the main lot that contained the Armory building can be split into four lots. The council felt the lot across the street used for parking was probably big enough for only one home.

The work will cost $4,600.

The council made the move after getting no bids from a developer for the entire site and a request from Trish Cripps at Monday night's city council meeting to potentially buy one of the lots to be created for a new home.
