The Salvation Army has set its Tree of Lights Goal this year at $60,000.

Manager Sharon Hall says that's slightly less than the $63,000 raised last year, but notes that number was only possible because of a $20,000 donation.

Bell ringing will begin on November 17th at Schnucks, Borowiak's IGA, Walmart, Dollar General and the Centralia Post Office. She reports they are desperately in need of bell ringers. The Salvation Army's new social worker Tollyene Ray will coordinate the bell ringers this year and those who want to volunteer to help should call 532-5942.

Hall notes the Tree of Lights campaign provides them the money needed to operate year round. She notes they get very little government money with the exception of a small amount for the food program.

The signup for the Salvation Army Thanksgiving and Christmas food programs and the Christmas Angel Tree program will continue next week on Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 to 1:30 pm. Next week will be the final week for Thanksgiving signup.
