Thursday is opening night for the Salem Community High School Drama Department's presentation of the Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!

The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride as two narrators and several actors attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel to more bizarre, obscure stories like The Devil's Grandmother and The Girl Without Hands.

Director Drew Johnson says this is a wild, free-form comedy with lots of audience participation and madcap fun.

"They should come prepared to hurt from laughter by the end. It is the Brothers Grimm did all of these stories and this show is a mash-up of trying to get every single story in the roughly 2 hour show. There is quite a bit of overlap because a lot of people may or may not know, the Brothers Grimm stories are meant to be told as one gigantic story."

Many actors are playing multiple roles in the different fairy tale. Senior Bryce Stanley is the Devil in Rapunzel, a dwarf in Snow White, and the King in Princess and the frog.

"It's really fun to do. Instead of focusing on just one type of person, I get to expand my horizons and do alot."

The show includes 50 SCHS students on stage and behind the scenes.

Shows will be Thursday through Saturday this week and next week, with show time at 7PM each evening. There will be one matinee, this Sunday, November 12th, at 3PM. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for students. They are available at Salem Travel or at the door before each performance.
