Jordan Parson is sworn in as a new Centralia Fire Fighter.

A new Centralia firefighter has taken the oath of office.

Jordan Parson is the first firefighter to be hired by the city in several years. The position is the result of retirements and the appointment of John Lynch as Fire Chief effective in January.

Lynch says Parson will become a certified firefighter after completing seven weeks of training at the State Firefighting Academy in Champaign beginning next Monday. The chief says the academy has been compared to giving firefighters the equivalent of seven years of experience.

Parson was a Centralia Police telecommunicator and a member of the Sandoval Fire Department where he is a third generation firefighter.
