A 25-year-old Centralia man has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly threatening and holding a woman against her will.

When the incident ended, 25-year-old Keith Gregg, Junior was taken into custody for aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, unlawful restraint and interfering with the reporting of domestic battery.

Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison says they first learned of the situation when they were called at 12:14 Saturday afternoon to a report of a male subject holding a female hostage in an apartment in the 500 block of North Hickory.

The male subject was reported to have a knife and pepper spray. Gregg had allegedly been holding the female against her will, since the previous night. Police also had information that the suspect had poured a flammable substance on the curtains in the residence and threatened to harm the female and light the apartment on fire if police were called.

Officers responded to the scene and evacuated others in nearby residences. Centralia Fire Department and Lifestar Ambulance were staged nearby throughout the incident.

The ILEAS (Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System) Special Response Team was contacted for assistance. When Gregg and the female came out of the apartment into a courtyard they were ordered by the Special Response Team to put their hands up. The two reportedly froze in place and Gregg was taken into custody at 2:45 pm without further incident. Gregg was not armed with any weapon.

Gregg is currently being questioned and then will be transported to the Marion County Jail. The female received minor injuries but did not seek medical treatment.
