Salem Plans to Replace Gas and Water Meters in Two Northside Subdivisions

If you have questions, please contact Salem City Hall at 618-548-2222.

The City of Salem Public Works Department plans to replace gas and water meters to each residence in North Pointe Estates Subdivision and Hawthorn Estates Subdivision beginning Tuesday, weather permitting.

Public Works Director John Pruden says the process should be completed within two weeks and will be performed during regular weekday hours. The project involves shutting off gas and water individually to each house. Customers should be without service for about a half hour.

No water boil order will occur for individual houses after water service is returned. The City of Salem gas department will shut off gas to individual houses and will attempt to do so with the residents present.

The City gas department will provide for re-lighting of gas appliance pilots. If residents are not at home, a card providing instructions for contact information will be left on the front door. For this program, re-lighting of appliance pilots can be scheduled after hours by contacting 618-548-2232.

As always, residents are encouraged to verify identity and company of any persons requesting entry into a private residence.
