Clinton County Board takes no vote on new sheriff; approves Matt Renaud as new Regional Superintendent of Schools

The Clinton County Board remains split on the future direction of the sheriff’s department.    There was considerable discussion, but no vote on a sheriff to replace Doug Maue when he retires on May 28th.

One contingent of the board has been pushing Albers Police Chief Brian Vielweber to fill out the final two years of Maue’s term, with the other wants Acting Chief Deputy Dan Travious to be appointed.   Vielweber’s appointment as sheriff failed on an 8 to 6 vote last month.

Unless a special meeting is called and an agreement reached, Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss will become acting sheriff after May 28th.   He would then remain in that position until the county board can reach a decision.

In other action, the Clinton County Board did approve Matt Renaud to replace Ron Daniels as Regional Superintendent of Schools after Daniels retires June 30th.  The Marion County Board has also approved Renaud’s appointment.  A vote is scheduled at future meetings of the Jefferson and Washington County Boards.  All four county boards must approve to make the appointment effective.
