Centralia Police investigate early morning shooting

Centralia Police are investigating the early morning shooting of a 13-year-old Centralia juvenile boy on the front porch of a home in the 100 block of South Pine.

Chief Brian Atchison says the juvenile has been transported to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound to the head.   Atchison says the boy did not live at the Pine Street address.

The chief reports the investigation continued throughout the day as they followed up on leads.   No one has been taken into custody.

Centralia Police, Centralia Fire, and Lifestar Ambulance were called to the scene at 5:50 Saturday morning.  Atchison says they later called in the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit as well as Centralia Detectives and some off duty officers.

No one around the home reported hearing gunshots, leaving some initial questions of how the injury had occurred.

Atchison says the investigation is on-going and further details are not yet being released.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Centralia Police at 533-7602.
