2019 07/17 – Wilma Lee (Minton) Kimmel

Wilma Lee (Minton) Kimmel, age 88, passed from this life and went to be with the Lord at 6:45 A.M. July 13, 2019, at her home with her family beside her.

Wilma worked for Mount Vernon City Schools District #80 for 20 years as a building secretary at Edison Grade School and Dr. Andy Hall Grade School. She was an active and faithful member of Central Christian Church. Wilma was a member of Trendsetters Home Extension and Jefferson County Historical Society. She was a past member of Rend Lake Piecemakers Quilt Club and Herbs for Health and Fun. She also volunteered as a 4-H leader for many years.   Wilma was a talented seamstress and did many types of needle crafts. She was always very eager to give her creations to others. Wilma’s gift of hospitality, generous spirit, warm smile, and Christian influence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2019, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Wilma was born September 4, 1930, in Alto Pass, Illinois, the daughter of the late Tiff Allen and Marie Elda (Bridgeman) Minton. She married Ardell Wright Kimmel on August 12, 1951, in Murphysboro, Illinois. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 24, 2011.

In addition to her husband and parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her sister, Bonita (Minton) Pinkerton; and grandsons, Nathaniel and Jeremy Honnold.

Wilma is survived by her son, Phillip Kimmel; daughters, Donna Honnold and husband, Keith, and Beckie Johnson; granddaughters, Heather Honnold and husband, Mike Thacker, Kristen Shelton and husband, Christopher; two great-grandsons, Nash and Titus Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.
