Illinois State Police say three people are dead and eight others injured when a car and a limousine collided head-on in a crash on Illinois Route 34 in Pope County in deep Southern Illinois.
Initial information indicates the driver of a Dodge Charger crossed the centerline into the path of the limousine. Both drivers were pronounced deceased on the scene. One of the nine limousine passengers was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other eight limousine passengers were transported to regional hospitals due to injuries.
Route 34 was closed for approximately six hours after the crash occurred at 3:28 Sunday morning for cleanup and investigation..
The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of relatives.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
