The finals are set for the 69th Salem Invitational Tournament after East St Louis and Effingham punched their tickets to the finals in Friday night’s semifinals. Effingham and TTown combined to make 24 three pointers but the Hearts pulled away with a 71-55 win.
They will get East St Louis in the 8:30 championship after the Flyers overcame a 9-point first-half deficit to beat Carbondale 63-40.
The day begins at 11:30 with the consolation semifinals with Salem and Highland followed by TF North and Mt Vernon. The trophy games begin at 4 pm with the 7th place game followed by the 3rd place game at 5:30, Consolation final at 7 and the championship at 8:30. All the games today can be heard on WJBD.
At the Quincy Tournament, Centralia defeated Quincy Notre Dame 56-42, it was Liberty, Nevada over Corliss 70-57, Marion Catholic 70-59 over St Louis Christian and in overtime it was Quincy beating Rock Island 54-50.
The Midland Trail Conference Tournament will finish up with trophy games today. The championship today will feature Woodlawn and Wayne City at 3. The 3rd place game is at 1:30 with Odin and Waltonville with Cisne and Christ Our rock playing for the consolation trophy at 12.
At the Okawville Tournament today it’s the trophy games with Alton Marquette and Wesclin playing at 8 pm for the title, Roxana and Okawville for 3rd and Carlyle and Gibault open the day in the 5th place game at 5 pm. Last night, Marquette beat Roxana 65-37, Wesclin beat Okawville 59-56.
At the Nashville Invitational last night, Mater Dei routed Breese Central 64-35, Nashville over Mascoutah 34-30. The Knights and Hornets will meet in a highly anticipated championship game tonight at 8 pm, Mascoutah and Central play for 3rd and Metro East Lutheran open the day for 5th place against Brentwood, Mo.
At Benton, it’s a full day of games to finish up the round-robin tournament. Sesser and Hamilton County open the day at 10 am followed by Mounds Meridian and Benton, then Vandalia and Pinckneyville at 1, Hamilton County and Mounds Meridian at 5:30, Vandalia and Sesser at 7 and Benton and Pinckneyville close down the tournament at 8:30. Last night Pinckneyville routed Meridian 75-39, Benton over Sesser 47-39 and Hamilton County in overtime beat Vandalia 49-47.
At the Sparta Mid Winter Classic, Freeburg is into today’s championship against Murphysboro after a win over Red Bud 51-42 last night to finish the pool play undefeated. Murphysboro beat Columbia, Steeleville, and Waterloo to get to the title game at 8:30 tonight. The day begins with Red Bud and Steeleville for 7th place followed by Trico and Columbia in the 5th place game and Sparta and Waterloo for third.
The Little Illini Tournament continues today starting at 3 pm with top seed Marshall taking on Flora, Casey and Lawrenceville follow then Olney and Paris with Robinson and Newton playing the nightcap at 7:30.
In regular season play, South Central beat down CHBC 71-39 behind 22 from Keenin Willshire and 20 from Hunter Brandt. Collin Miller finished with 13 as the Cougars are 11-7 and 4-1 in the NTC. They will play at Dieterich tonight.
In other regular-season games, Altamont beat Patoka 80-32, St Anthony over Windsor 59-24, North Clay 74-53 over Oblong.
