The Salem Wildcats will play for the consolation championship of the Salem Invitational Tournament after being Highland 64 to 34 Saturday afternoon. Salem will play Mt. Vernon who won the other consolation semi-final.
Salem jumped to a 20-12 first-quarter lead and never looked back. The Wildcats led 38 to 23 at half-time and 52-31 at the end of three quarters on the way to victory. Salem had three players in double figures led by Laden Ware with 16. Caden Bee added 15 points and nine rebounds. Luke Light scored 11. Highland was led by Kade Altadonna with 13 points.
Mt. Vernon beat Thorton Fractional North 71 to 64. Mt Vernon had four players in double figures led by Jackson Creel with 22 points. Quani Rudd had 13, Amir Spanns with 12, and Dylan Harkins with 11. Thornton’s Devonte Hall was the top scorer in the game with 26 points.
That sets up the 7th place game at 4 Saturday afternoon between Highland and Thorton Fractional North, the 3rd place game between Teutopolis and Carbondale at 5:30, the consolation championship between Salem and Mt. Vernon at 7, and the championship game at 8:30 Saturday night between East St. Louis and Carbondale.
