Two injured when semi runs off I-57 north of Salem    

Both occupants of a semi were injured when the rig went out of control early Friday night and ran off the southbound lanes of I-57 six and a half miles north of the Salem exit.

Preliminary investigative details indicate 33-year-old Jorgon Mata Ortiz of Laredo, Texas was traveling southbound when he ran off the left side of the road and entered the median.   He overcorrected to the right, crossed both of the southbound lanes, ran off the right side of the road and struck several trees before coming to a stop.

Both Ortiz and passenger, 43-year-old Rosendo Martinez Mendoza of Laredo, Texas, were both transported by United Medical Response ambulance to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries.

The rig received heavy damage.

Both the Salem and Kinmundy-Alma Fire Departments were called to the scene to assist the occupants of the truck.

The crash occurred at 5:40 Friday evening.
