Rural Centralia man injured in single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning

A 43-year-old Centralia man was injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Selmaville Road near the Bryant Lane intersection southwest of Salem early Sunday morning.

Initial information from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department indicates Benjamin Beard of Niagra Lane hit a power pole when leaving the road knocking out power to the nearby area. Beard was initially taken to a local hospital when a medical helicopter declined to fly due to weather conditions.

The Salem Fire Protection District was called to extricate Beard from the vehicle. The initial report indicated the vehicle was smoking, but fire officials say there was no fire.

Beard was alone in the vehicle.

The crash occurred at 3:09 Sunday morning.

We’ll have further information when the crash report is completed.
