Former Governor Rod Blagojevich was released from his Colorado confinement last night and flew home from Denver to Chicago.
The reaction to his release has been strong on both sides of the aisle in Springfield. Republicans are upset and Democrats are too. Senate President Don Harmon says Blagojevich should have served out his entire prison sentence.
“It would be a lot easier to stomach if the former governor would have shown any contrition at any point on the way. But I think Donald Trump models a behavior where you never apologize or show contrition for anything. And it seems he is rewarding people who behave the way he behaves.”
House Minority Leader Jim Durkin says he strongly disagrees with the President and there are more deserving people to released from federal prison than the ex-Governor.
“I have no idea. I don’t know what his game is. I’m not going to try and get into his head, I just don’t understand what his motivation is, I just think it’s wrong.”
Durkin says as Blagojevich is being released the pressure is on at the State House to stop the kind of corruption and backroom dealing that sent him to prison.
