A Farina man escaped injury when his pickup truck sustained a mechanical problem under the cab and caught fire Saturday night.
Kell Fire Chief Lonnie McDaneld says David Matheny was traveling northbound on I-57 at mile marker 108 and a half when the fire started. He was able to pull off the highway where the fire spread to a grassy area.
McDaneld says the 2005 pickup received an estimated $4,000 in fire damage. The grass fire was confined to a small area.
Northbound I-57 was reduced to one lane during firefighting efforts.
The fire call came in at 7:01 Saturday night.
