Centralia Police Chief says drug house torn down with help of property owner

Centralia Public Works crew tears down a home at 520 1/2 North Locust that had been the scene of several drug-related crimes.

Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson says one of the city’s problem drug houses is gone. City crews used a track hoe to tear down the home at 520 1/2 North Locust last week.

The home was the scene of several drug arrests. Dodson says this wasn’t done in a heavy-handed approach, but by working in collaboration with the property owner who was sick of dealing with the aggravation. He adds the Lawson family felt a sense of responsibility for the impact his property was
having on the surrounding neighbors.

Dodson says the elimination of these types of properties are the kind of actions that will improve not only the quality of life for the residents of North Locust Street but will also have an impact to the quality of life for all the residents of Centralia.

Dodson is thanking the Lawson Family for putting community above self-interest as well as the City yards crew for doing the heavy lifting, literally.
