Season comes to an end for the Carlyle Indians as they fall to Alton Marquette 56-38 in Tuesday’s semifinal round of the Class 2A Roxana Regional.
Game was tied at 12-12 after one period and Tribe took a 21-19 on Jayden McIntosh’s three-pointer with 3:39 left in the first half. The Explorers ran off nine unanswered points during the next minute to take the lead for good. Alton Marquette went on to lead 30-25 at halftime despite 16 first half points by Carlyle’s Hayden Hoffmann.
Indians got a bucket by McIntosh a minute into the third quarter, but then went the next 14 minutes with a bucket until McIntosh connected again with a minute left in the game. Carlyle only made three field goals inside the three-point arc. Alton Marquette ran its lead to 40-31 by the end of the third period and led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter. Hoffmann tallied 20 points to lead Carlyle, while McIntosh had ten.
Indians finish the season at 11-21 and graduate seniors Mitchell Becker and Blake Goodin.
