5th Grade Bobcats Donate $2000 To Local Youth Organizations Over The Weekend

The Salem 5th grade Bobcats basketball team was scheduled to compete in the Middle School Basketball Association State Tournament this weekend.  The first Salem team to qualify for the Tournament held in Rockford, the tournament was another casualty of the Covid-19 scare.

On Friday, the team met after fundraising for the past month to cover expenses.  The team decided with the fantastic community support, we should donate money back to organizations that help the youth in the area.  The decision was made to donate $1000 dollars to the Bobcats Booster Club with $500 going to the boys basketball program and another $500 to the girls team.

Then on Saturday, the giving continued as the 5th grade Bobcats went to the Salem Little League Fundraiser at the Elks and donated another $1000 check to Dave McIntosh, Adam Bass and Tristan Zimmermann who represented the league.

As head coach of the team for the past 3 years, Toby Gullion told WJBD/WSIQ, “I first wanted to say thank you to the community for all the love and support and to know all your support went back to the community to help area youth!  We are building productive, caring citizens on top of hard-working basketball players.”
