Salem and Centralia close playground areas in parks

Both the City of Salem and Centralia have announced that playgrounds are being closed in city parks.

The action follows Governor Pritzker’s Stay at Home Executive Order issued Friday that closes playgrounds because of their potential to spread the Caronavirus.

Centralia is also closing the restroom facilities in Fairview Park and Laura Leak Parks.   The restrooms are not yet open for the season in Bryan Memorial Park in Salem.   The playground ban includes Bryan Park, Roberts Park, Jackson Park, and Mueller Park.

When Salem Police see people at the playground equipment they are asking them to leave under the Governor’s order.

The Centralia release follows the lead of the Governor in encouraging residents to engage in outdoor activities such as walking, running, or biking providing individuals comply with the social distancing requirements.
