Salem residents are being reminded the city’s residential garbage contractor DBS Services will not pick up loose garbage.
Salem City officials say all residential garbage needs to be placed within bags that are closed or tied. Garbage found to be spilled, blown or dragged upon arrival for pickup won’t be collected. The decision for what will or won’t be picked up is made solely by the City’s garbage hauler. This is per City Ordinances Section 10 and per collector’s contract. The maximum allowable pickup per house is the equivalent of 100 gallons. Typically 3×33 gal or 6×15 gal. bags.
DBS Services will not service any trash outside of the container as they are trying to limit exposure to their drivers during this time. They appreciate everyone’s support and understanding as they know everyone is working hard to prevent exposure during this pandemic.
Both the City of Salem and DBS Services say their number one priority is the safety of its employees and customers.
