Salem Police say two people were arrested following an altercation in the 800 block of North Shelby early Thursday morning where a knife was reportedly pulled.
Salem Police say the first incident occurred when 42-year-old Jerry Vanhoutin of Markland Street in Salem and 30-year-old Sarah Niebert of North Shelby reportedly tried to get into a parked vehicle occupied by the alleged victim. Police say Vanhoutin reached through a window to open a door, while Niebert reportedly threatened to bust out a window with a hammer.
Niebert was given a notice to appear for disorderly conduct.
Vanhouton was arrested for criminal trespass to property as well as an outstanding Christian County failure to appear warrant for criminal trespass to property and an Effingham County failure to appear warrant for deceptive practice. After complaining of stomach pains, Vanhoutin was taken to the hospital and given a notice to appear in court.
After Vanhouton got out of the hospital he reportedly went back to the victim’s home just before five Thursday morning. When confronted by the victim on why he was taking photos, Vanhouton reported said he was taking them to show he had been set up. He then allegedly pulled a knife and said don’t make me stab you.
Vanhouton was arrested following that incident for alleged intimidation and aggravated assault and taken to the Marion County Jail to await a decision on charges.
