State to require more COVID-19 testing in long term care facilities

The State Department of Public Health is requiring long term care facilities in Illinois to do more COVID-19 testing.

About 44% of Illinois coronavirus patients who have died were living in long term care facilities.  That’s why Governor JB Pritzker says it’s so important to improve testing.

“Many facilities have been great partners, and they should be applauded.  But long term care residents are some of our most vulnerable Illinoisans.  That’s why strong compliance from “many” just isn’t good enough.”

Emergency rules filed by IDPH require facilities to test all residents and staff when an outbreak is suspected and in other instances, and to report the numbers back to the state.
