Salem 11u Splits DH With Mt Vernon Getting Stellar Relief From Gullion & Timely Hitting Late

The Salem 11u opened up their travel baseball season with a split at Mt Vernon yesterday winning the second game 8-7 in come back fashion.

Trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Salem went to lefty Payton Gullion out of the bullpen.  He worked the final 4 innings of the game allowing no runs on just 2 hits and got his 3rd and final strikeout of the game with the tying and winning runs at 2nd and 3rd.  Landon Maxey went 4-4 with 3 runs and an RBI, Landon Tennyson drove in a pair and scored with RBI also from Avery Gullion, Keytin Grawe, Jarret Gibson and Max Vincent.  Salem scored 4 times in the fourth and then twice in each of the final 2 innings to pull off the win.

Salem dropped the opener 14-4 in five innings.  Payton Gullion had a hit and scored 2 runs in the loss, Kyler King and Gibson drove in a run each along with Evan Barnes.

Salem returns to action on Tuesday when they play at Carlyle before heading to the Olney Tournament July 11 & 12.
