The member athletic directors of the SIJHSAA met yesterday to discuss the fall sports seasons. The AD’s decided to continue to go with all tryouts and seasons at this point, however they have added another meeting to discuss the matter on August 3rd. That will give the IHSA time to meet and decide what they are going to do which the SIJHSAA would then assumedly follow suit with their decision. The IHSA was to meet on Friday but moved that meeting to next Wednesday.
In recent announcements, they have said they were going to follow suit with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Governor’s guidelines. Several plans are still on the table, including one from the AD at Roxana High School who has floated the idea to enable some high school sports to be played in the fall. The idea would also move football and other contact sports to the spring. It’s a similar suggestion being looked at in Texas where football is huge.
