The SIJHSAA met to decide on the fate of fall sports yesterday and the Board of Control voted to approve baseball, softball and cross country to be played this fall following the specifications set down by the IHSA and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Baseball and softball will use Phase 4 guidelines for practices and games with a more detailed document given to member schools early next week. Schools may lay a maximum of 2 varsity games per week and no tournaments. Of these games, one can be a double header against the same opponent making that total number of games per week at 3. JV teams will have the same limitations. Spectator and group gatherings are subject to IDPH guidelines during this time with the state series still in question.
Cross Country will be under the same restrictions on top of running just 3 races per meet instead of the normal 5 with a limit on number of participants and spectators.
Also competition in all sports should be within an Illinois Covid Region or within a conference. If the Governor places all schools on remote learning, all SIJHSAA sports will be suspended or canceled. Any schools in an Illinois Covid Region that is placed in Phase 3 or lower, of the Governors Restore Illinois Plan, all sports and or sport state series will be suspended or canceled. The eligibility of students that are remote learning is the decision of the member school.
Franklin Park is scheduled to hold baseball tryouts on Monday.
