Salem Police say three people were injured in a Tuesday afternoon three-vehicle chain-reaction crash on West Main at the Illinois Street intersection.

Police report the crash occurred when a 17-year-old Salem juvenile boy was unable to stop and crashed his SUV into the rear of a car stopped in front of him driven by a 16-year-old female from Iuka. The impact of the crash pushed the female juvenile’s car into one in front of it driven by 69-year-old
Billy Jo McGee of Iuka.

The 16-year-old female driver along with a 14-year-old female passenger in her car from Salem and a passenger in the McGee SUV were all taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The 17-year-old juvenile driver who started the crash was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Salem Police report all three vehicles were headed westbound at the time of the crash at 12:53 Tuesday afternoon.
