The Salem Rotary has announced plans for a first-ever Autumn Scarecrow Festival.
It will be a fundraiser for the Shoes For Children Program this year.
The club is assuming sponsorship for this worthwhile project from the Salem Kiwanis club which has disbanded. The program provides school shoes for students in the Salem and Selmaville School Districts. Last year shoes and socks were given to 154 students.
The Autumn Scarecrow Festival will be held during the month of October. Members of the community are invited to participate in the Festival by setting up an outdoor display including a scarecrow.
The entry fee to participate in the contest is $5.00 and may be submitted along with a note stating the entrant’s name, address, and cell phone number at Peoples National Bank Drive-thru before October 17th. Or entrants may enter using the Book Now button at https://www.facebook.com/SalemILrotary
Salem Rotarians will view the display on October 18-24. Winners will be announced on October 25. One-half of the proceeds will be awarded in gift certificates to local restaurants to three winners with 100% of the balance used to provide shoes.
