2020 10/19 – Matthew Wayne White

Matthew Wayne White, age 57, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:09 p.m. on October 15, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Matt attended Opdyke Grade School, Webber Township High School, and Rend Lake College.   He worked at Continental Tire for 39 years and was a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church.  He loved his church family at Lebanon Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with family, and hunting and trail riding with his sons.  Most of all, he loved God and was a very faithful Christian.

Due to current restrictions during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, a private family visitation will be held.  Graveside funeral services for Mr. White will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, at Zion Grove (County Line) Cemetery, with Travis Hayes and Alan Spangler officiating.  Attendees are asked to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.  Burial will follow at Zion Grove (County Line) Cemetery.     Memorials may be made to the Lebanon Baptist Church and will be received at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix at P.O. He was born in Carmi on Feb. 12, 1963, the son of Walter Howard White and Mary Joan (Seidel) White.  On Oct. 12, 2013, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, he married Sharon Allen, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his wife, Sharon White of Mt. Vernon, he is survived by two sons, Christopher R. White and wife Sarah of Hoyleton, and Lucas A. White and girlfriend Sonya Smith of Mt. Vernon;  two stepsons, Justin E. Allen of Bonnie and Jesse G. Allen of Centralia;  seven Grandchildren, Kayann Bush, Emily Bush, Gracie Bush, Madison Draege, Ava Draege, Hendrix Draege, and Catelyn Allen;  two Great Grand Children, Aradia and Aries;  three brothers, Mike and Sharon White, John and Tonia White, and Mark and Theresa White;  one sister, Rita Opsahl and husband Ed;  first mother-in-law, Janet Gesell;  Father-in-law, Bobby Carnes;  Brother-in-law, Mike Carnes, and wife Amanda;  and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jena White;  his parents;  a sister, Christine;  his first Father-in-law, Vanley Gesell; and Mother-in-law, Carol Carnes.
