IHSA Waiting Till Oct. 26 For Guidance On Winter Sports…Will Allow Travel/School Sports In Summer

The IHSA held their regularly scheduled board meeting virtually yesterday.  Board Director Craig Anderson said he knows that student-athletes, coaches, parents, officials and fans are anxious to learn more details about the plans for IHSA Winter Sports.  He added they expect to have a response from the Illinois Department of Public Health with final recommendations for winter sport plans, including any accommodations and postseason play, by October 26.  Anderson says they will then reconvene the Board to officially vote and announce that information.

The board also made accommodations to the IHSA Independent Team By Law and will grant this school year only specific exemptions to spring and summer season sports.  Winter sports such as basketball and wrestling which remain in their traditional season will have no accommodation related to the by law.  It does affect spring sports like football, boys soccer and girls volleyball who are granted to participate simultaneously on school and travel teams through the duration of their high school season from Feb. 15-May 1.  Summer season sports such as baseball/softball, track, and girl’s soccer will be allowed to participate simultaneously on school and club/travel teams as well beginning on June 4th.  The summer season in IHSA is slated to run April 19-June 16.
